When turned to the OFF position, the engine won’t run due to the power to the ignition relay or ignition coil circuit being cut. This prevents engine “Run on” and is an important safety factor in competition use. In addition, and to ensure the main vehicle electrical circuit is fully discharged, the resistor bleeds any residual voltage to ground.
